It is so easy to blow your money in one go, especially at the supermarket. Plan your shopping...
- Never shop when you're hungry.
- Make a list and stick to it.
- Take cash - leave your credit card at home.
- Do your shopping by yourself or with your housemate only. If you're with friends you'll buy things you don't need.
- Shop weekly or fortnightly to save time and money. Shopping everyday will cost more because you'll buy little extras each time.
- Look out for specials and sales.
- Stock up on rice, pasta, pasta sauces and tinned vegetables.
- Buy toilet paper and household products in bulk. They'll last you longer and cost less.
- Buy Home Brand products - they're cheaper and usually the same quality.
- Freeze leftovers in small quantities for another day.
Choose where you shop...
- Compare prices - different supermarkets have different prices.
- Buy fresh fruit and veggies in small quantities so you don't waste. Markets are often cheaper and better than supermarkets, especially just before the market closes.
- Visit your butcher - their meat is often cheaper and better than supermarkets.
